US Capitol Building
The United States Capitol Building is one of the nation's most familiar landmarks. Started in 1793, it houses the legislative branch of the national government--including the meeting chambers of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The building ranks among the most architecturally impressive as well as symbolic structures in the world. The building is located on Capitol Hill on the eastern end of the National Mall.
Open: Daily 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except Christmas, Thanksgiving and January 1.
