The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial honors the men and women who served in one of the nation's most controversial wars. The Memorial consists of three main components. The first part is the Memorial Wall designed by Maya Ying Lin was dedicated November 13, 1982. It includes the inscribed names of the 58,245 American soldiers who died during the conflict and those missing in action. The second part of the memorial consists of the Three Servicemen Statue by Fredrick Hart. The third part is the Vietnam Women's Memorial designed by Glenna Goodacre. The two later parts were added in years following the memorial's initial dedication. Since opening in 1982, the memorial is the most visited of the national monuments on the mall.
