Information on White House Tours for the Public
The White House is open to public tours for groups of 10 or more people. The self-guided White House tours are permitted from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fridays, and 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturdays--except federal holidays. Visting Groups must arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled tour time. For more information, visit the White House Online or the National Park Service page on Visting the White House.
Tour Tickets
Request for admission passes must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance but no less than 30 days in advance. Due to the limited number of tours available, visitors are encouraged to submit requests as early as possible. To order passes, click on White House Tickets.
Accommodations for Impaired Vistors
Mobility-Impaired / Wheelchairs
Upon arrival, visitors requiring the use of a wheelchair should notify officers at the Visitors Entrance. Reservations are not possible.
Hearing-Impaired
Hearing-impaired groups of ten or more may request tours through their Member of Congress. The Visitors Office TDD (telephone device for the deaf) is 202-456-2121.
Visually-Impaired Visually-impaired groups of ten or more may request tours through their Member of Congress. Guide animals are permitted in the building.
Visitor Identification Requirements
All visitors 15 years or older are required to present photo ID with information that exactly matches the name previously submitted for security clearance. Individuals whose ID does not exactly correspond to the name/data cleared for entry may be denied entrance.
Prohibited items
Visitors are prohibited from bringing a number of items into the White House, including but not limited to the following: handbags, purses, backpacks, book bags, food or beverages of any kind, cameras, strollers, tobacco products, video recorders or any other recording devices, personal grooming items (ie, make-up, lip or hand lotions, hair brushes or combs, etc.), pointed objects (ie, pens, pencils, knitting needles, etc.), guns, ammunition, lighters, aerosol containers, fireworks, stun guns, mace, knives, or martial arts weapons/devices. In addition, the US Secret Service reserves the right to prohibit any additional personal items. Wallets, car keys, cell phones, and umbrellas are permitted.
Note that the grounds have no public storage facilities available. Individuals arriving with prohibited items mentioned above will not be allowed to enter the White House.
